Beyond the Shoreline - Imagining Otherwise in Bolela
Children invited to engage with art as a means of expanding their sense of possibility.
Situated in Bolela, Mangochi, behind a well-known local bar, Beyond the Shoreline emerged as an intervention within a community shaped by limited access to formal education and constrained opportunities.
The project invited children to engage with art as a means of expanding their sense of possibility. Through drawing, painting and collaborative making, participants were introduced to alternative ways of seeing themselves and their futures beyond the immediate realities of their environment.
Rather than positioning art as escape, the project framed it as a tool for imagining "otherwise" - a quiet but powerful assertion that different lives can be envisioned, and eventually, pursued.
