Unlearning the Obvious - Young Voices in Abstract Form

Unlearning the Obvious brings together works created by children engaging with abstract art as both a visual language and a tool for self-definition.

Through workshops, dialogue, and peer-led critique, participants were encouraged to move beyond fixed meanings and instead explore how colour, shape, and gesture can communicate lived experience.

At its core, the exhibition creates space for young Afrikan artists to interpret the world on their own terms, challenging stereotypes, resisting simplification, and asserting identity in a context where they are often misread or overlooked. The works presented are not only creative expressions, but acts of understanding, negotiation, and quiet defiance.
